The Cesar Chavez Picnic at Chicano Park was Tu Libro's first "official" event! I have visited, dropped off books at various events and locations - to include iHop, after having the whole wheat short stack with fresh fruits, claro...
But, this event was special... Cesar Chavez stood up for nuestra cultura... One of my favorite quotes is by Cesar ~ "Preservation of one's own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures." And that, mi gente is exactly the message, the point, the purpose of Tu Libro! The ability to give Chican@ Literature, nuestra historia, to the raza, the gente... A positive self identity through love, respect and education!!! Thank you to all of my camaradas who helped me get to my first event and to all of the gente who came by the Tu Libro spot at the picnic for Tus Libros!!! Tiahui!!! The Bookery is an amazing, local and independent book store in El Chuco.
